Winter is the IDEAL time to prune And Remove treesShorter days and colder temperatures means dormancy for your trees. Did you know that dormancy is the IDEAL time to prune your trees? You might think an arborist will have trouble determining which branches need to be removed when stripped of their leaves, but that isn't the case. A trained arborist can identify a live branch versus a dead branch in the winter based on which branches have buds. Buds form at the end of the summer and serve as an indicator for which branches are alive in the winter. The Benefits of Winter Tree Work:

The winter time is what becomes busy for my family and I. It's usually the time when we do a tree trimming work on both of the pine trees that we have in the backyard. We do it so that neither one of the trees overlap each other with their branches and also we do it for decorations. http://www.meadtree.com/services/tree-care.php

These are some fantastic tips, I wouldn't have even thought about visibility being improved by the lack of leaves during the winter. I have also heard that pruning during dormancy helps to direct the trees growth as well so that you could make it miss power-lines that are nearby, is that true? Regardless, there are plenty of other good reasons you bring up to trim the tree in winter, especially the one about helping the tree fight diseases.

This was a very interesting post. What many homeowners do not know is that typically tree services will have lower prices during the slower seasons. Many, that I have come in contact with, think that once the colder weather hits, you now have to wait until spring for tree care. This is not the case as mentioned above and is actually better for the tree. Thank you for sharing this post.

Great post! I dont think many homeowners realize they can attend to their tree care needs in the winter. As you said it is a great time to do some tree trimming and the homeowner can save some money as it tends to be a slower time for business.

Excellent reading! Our company believes pruning is one of the most essential landscape practices. I'm getting cold just looking at what you guys have to deal with! Here in Arizona it can get chilly (believe it or not), but we don't have to deal with snow. Our trees go into a 'dormant' period during the winter, and it is important that you take precaution to ensure they will thrive in the spring, but luckily we don't have to trudge through the snow to make that happen.

It was great how you said that spring is the best time for the cuts to seal after pruning and so doing the latter in the winter will help ensure better tree recovery in the spring. I guess that's enough of a reason to hire professional arborist right away. My brother has been asking me to prune the trees because the branches are making their way into his bedroom. At first, I thought that it's not healthy for the trees, but now I realized that it's for the best. Thanks! I'll get in touch with a professional right away.

We always recommend pruning in the winter time because of the fact it's a little cheaper but more-so for health concerns (disease, branches getting weak and falling over, resulting in breaks that can be prevented). Though we don't really get snow here in the So Cal flats, we stress health always and forever.

I really appreciate you talking about what tree trimming can do if you do it for dormant seasons. Making it less stressful for my trees could really help them grow and stay healthy without tiring themselves out in the middle of a hot part of the year. As soon as things cool down around this area, I'll ask a tree service to help out with some pruning.

It's interesting when you said that arborists could help identify the health of the branches of your trees. Last week, my wife told me that she planned to have the tree in our house removed because it is too close to our home. She asked if I had any idea what could be the best option for safety purposes. Thanks to this instructive article, I'll be sure to consult trusted tree removal services as they can provide preventative measures.

Thanks for mentioning that winter tree work is less stressful because the tree is dormant. My husband and I have three trees in our backyard that need to be trimmed. I was thinking about waiting until Spring, but after reading this I'll definitely have it done during the winter.

I like that you mentioned how getting tree work can help in the recovery of trees in winter. My husband and I have a diseased tree in our yard that needs to be trimmed and treated. I should look for tree pruning services in our area that would do these to reduce the likelihood of our tree's disease spreading.

Winter is an ideal time to prune and remove trees due to the decreased level of sap flow in deciduous trees. During winter, the energy stored in the tree is low, as photosynthesis is reduced due to lower temperatures and shorter daylight hours. This allows for a more efficient removal of diseased tissue while minimizing the stress associated with pruning at other times of the year. Thanks for sharing this interesting topic with us.
